Moving to the peaceful Shropshire countryside nearly three years ago was the best thing we’ve ever done and we just love it here!

We often see our guests arrive to the cottages feeling a bit worn out by the daily grind. But give it 24 hours, and the shoulders drop, smiles appear, and the quiet works its charm.

The Shropshire Hills seem to reinvent themselves with every season. The colours, the light, the landscape, everything changes so much that it can almost feel like you’ve never been here before.

Spring is probably the season we get asked about most eagerly with the arrival of bluebells and the pretty country lanes enveloped with frilly cow parsley, but if I’m honest, I’m really looking forward to Autumn this year. Cooler days, crisp mornings, a bit of damp in the air and all those gorgeous golds and reds starting to appear. 🍂

There really is something special about every season here though.

Joking aside, I’ve surprised myself and come to really enjoy the social media side of our business, which is something I never thought I’d say a year ago!

As a woman in my 50s it didn’t come easily.
I had never really shown any interest in social media before moving here and it’s not an easy thing to learn when you’re busy with a million and one other jobs.

Anyone running a holiday cottage business as an actual business rather than a side hustle will probably agree that it’s a really tough, competitive market out there and it can sometimes feel like everyone with a spare room is having a go!

A small business like ours doesn’t have the finance for a marketing budget so it is very much a matter of doing it yourself.

I’ve found social media to be a real lifeline for us and it genuinely can work to get you bookings.

So I’m definitely a convert now. Never underestimate what these platforms can do for a small business! ❤️

Sometimes it’s hard to put into words all the incredible people we meet that choose to stay here.

We hear about their lives, their trials and tribulations, their celebrations and their sorrows and when they choose to return for another peaceful getaway we feel that we are a part of their story in a tiny way.

Maybe it’s because people feel so at home staying here, maybe it’s because they get a good nights sleep, maybe it’s just the quiet stillness of Middle Farm and maybe it’s the jaw dropping beauty of The Shropshire Hills - who knows but Marcus and I will never stop appreciating the fact that you chose us out of all thousands and thousands of holiday cottages and still you return🥰
